Blackthorns Community Primary Academy is a vibrant primary academy in the beautiful village of Lindfield with 7 classes, with just one class in every year.

As a community primary academy, our role within our local community is very important to us. Our strong relationships with parents are crucial, since it is when schools and parents work closely together that children progress best both academically and as people. Working as we do with children every day is both a responsibility and a privilege.

We have a highly skilled, passionate and dedicated team of teachers and support staff who strive for the very best for the children at our academy. This is very clear as soon as you set foot in our academy, by the wonderful and stimulating environment that is created for the children. It is always a joy to show visitors around our academy and share in some of the things that make Blackthorns such a unique and special place to learn and work.

Our Teaching and Learning

At Blackthorns Community Primary Academy, our curriculum is built around how children learn best. Our teaching is centred on the children themselves, and everything we do aims to develop their awareness and understanding of their world.

Every year, we plan a broad, balanced, creative, and engaging curriculum which covers the national curriculum.

We offer opportunities in a range of arts subjects (art, craft and design, music, dance, drama and still and moving photography). This has a positive impact on academic achievement and the self-esteem of the children, providing breadth to their learning and depth to their development as individuals and young citizens.

Our strong relationships with parents are crucial to us, since it is when schools and parents work closely together that children make their best progress.

Our Wraparound Care

Our innovative Pioneer Breakfast Club runs from 7am, at our neighbouring Lindfield Primary Academy School. We pride ourselves on a varied and exciting range of activities and all children can enjoy a healthy breakfast before the start of school. Our sessions are pre-planned and cater for both ks1 and ks2.

Breakfast choices include of a selection of cereals, crumpets, toast and fresh fruit. Children will be walked across to the Blackthorns site by Pioneer staff, ready for the start of the school day.
