Thinkers (Reception)

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child in to Thinkers class.

Early Years is an exciting year where children learn through play, whole class and group teaching, which is both adult guided and child led. Your child will grow in confidence and independence as they move towards transition to Year 1. Learning is built around children’s interests; therefore topics are created to promote learning and inspire the children.

Home Learning

Each week the children will take home two reading books that are to be completed and returned the following week. Please complete the home school diaries with their reading experiences. The children will also have a Home Activity sheet, which outlines tasks that either introduces a new idea that is about to be taught in school, or builds upon and support the learning that has taken place that week.

Assessment for Learning

The Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework outlines 7 areas of learning. This includes three prime areas of personal, social and emotional development, physical development, and communication and language. It also sets out specific areas of learning which include literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design. All children are assessed against all areas of learning using Target Tracker. This system allows children, teachers and parents to assess progress in learning.

P.E will be on a Tuesday and Wednesday, so please could you ensure that the children arrive wearing the correct kit in school on this day. Also on alternate Thursdays there will be Spanish and music lessons. lessons. Mrs Major will teach the class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Miss Howes, a graduate trainee, will also be teaching in class. Mrs Lee and Mrs Ware will be supporting the class.
