I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child in to Year 3.
This year the children will develop their independence and organisational skills as they move into Key Stage 2. Taking responsibility for their learning and working collaboratively across the curriculum. The year will be filled with lots of fantastic opportunities and experiences. This year, the topics are slightly different. The autumn term topic is called Industrial Warriors and looks at the impact of the railway on our local area and Victorian inventions. The spring term is called Invading Warriors, when the class will study Anglo Saxon and Viking Britain. Finally, the summer term is called Eco Warriors which focuses on plants and the impact humans have on the environment.
Each week your child will be required to complete their homework in their homework books; this may begin to build and differ as we approach May (the time at which your children will take their End of Key Stage 2 Assessments). Please encourage them to hand it in on time (Wednesdays). Your children’s individual targets have been stuck in to their home-school diaries; please read and discuss them with your children.
P.E will be on a Tuesday morning and swimming on a Friday, so please could you ensure that the children have the correct kit in school on these days. Madam Robinson’s French lessons are on a Wednesday and music continues to be taught on a Thursday. On a Friday morning, Mrs Thomas will be teaching the class. Mrs Dickinson and Miss Saunders will work with Year 3 in the mornings.
Username / Passwords can be found in children’s home school diaries.
Assessment for learning:
The new National Curriculum has set out clear expectations for what children should achieve by the end of each key stage. To track pupil attainment we are using Target Tracker, a system that has devised a series of statements that allow children, teachers and parents to assess progress in their learning in line with NC requirements.
