Welcome to Year 2: "Explorers"

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child in to Year 2.
The Year 2 curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that children have had in Year 1. The children will have a more formal learning environment in Year 2 but they will continue to learn through exciting topics so that they remain motivated, enthused and eager learners. Phonics will be taught daily for 30 minutes, to help with reading, writing and spelling.

Home learning:

Each week your child will be required to complete their homework, especially reading, phonics and spelling tasks; this may begin to build and differ as we approach May (the time at which your children will take their End of Key Stage 2 Assessments). Please encourage them to hand it in on time (Wednesdays). Other information:

Assessment for learning:

The new National Curriculum has set out clear expectations for what children should achieve by the end of each key stage. To track pupil attainment we are using Target Tracker, a system that has devised a series of statements that allow children, teachers and parents to assess progress in their learning in line with NC requirements.
