I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child in to Year 2.
The Year 2 curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that children have had in Year 1. The children will have a more formal learning environment in Year 2 but they will continue to learn through exciting topics so that they remain motivated, enthused and eager learners. Phonics will be taughtdaily for 30 minutes, to help with reading, writing and spelling.
Each week your child will be required to complete their homework in their homework books; this may begin to build and differ as we approach May (the time at which your children will take their End of Key Stage 2 Assessments). Please encourage them to hand it in on time (Wednesdays). Your children’s individual targets have been stuck in to their home-school diaries; please read and discuss them with your children
P.E will be on Thursday afternoons and swimming on a Friday, so please could you ensure that the children have the correct kit in school on these days. Mrs Moffat will teach music on Wednesdays and Mrs Robinson’s Spanish lessons are onThursday. Mrs Thomas will teach the class on Friday afternoons. Mrs Wheller will work with Year 2 in the mornings.Useful Websites:

Assessment for learning:
The new National Curriculum has set out clear expectations for what children should achieve by the end of each key stage. To track pupil attainment we are using Target Tracker, a system that has devised a series of statements that allow children, teachers and parents to assess progress in their learning in line with NC requirements.
