Who are we?

We are Blackthorns school PTA. We are a registered charity (no: 296156) and are formerly known as Blackthorns PTA, but informally known as FOBs (Friends of Blackthorns).

We are really just a group of parents who want to see that our children have the best and most enjoyable time possible whilst at school.

We achieve this by raising money to provide all the ‘nice to have things’ that a school budget couldn’t pay for.

We are always looking for new members to join the committee. We always need inspiration, a can do attitude and a smiley face, above all, we need enthusiasm and a willingness to muck in.

The committee provides a range of skills, and we ALWAYS work as a team, so even if you are outgoing or would prefer to be behind the scenes, there is always something you can do or help us with.

Our focus is to maximise our fundraising capabilities but have fun whilst getting to know fellow parents, at the same time.

We are fortunate to have many generous parents, and combined with an active FOBs committee, we have successfully raised funds through a variety of events, which are aimed at children, parents and families, from Quiz nights to School Discos, Christmas Fair to Village day, there is always something for everyone.

Most recent fundraising purchases for the school have been:

  • Funding to upgrade the school WiFi.
  • A second planned Author visit, and further training for the creative writing program initiative launched last year with Write Inspired.
  • Provision of Science and DT resources.
  • Removal of dead oak trees at the back of the KS2 playground to allow safe play in that area.
  • A potential visit with workshops from a local Dance School.

How else can you help?

  • Does your employer offer Match Funding or similar? Please find out as it could mean if you spend ½ an hour helping on a stall, or at an event, your company could match the monies raised.
  • Easyfundraising www.easyfundraising.org.uk. Shop online and raise money for FOBs – easy!
  • Continue to support FOBs and the school.
